3.2

I have now spent 3.5 hours on the phone or in chat with service representatives. It seems Tracfone cannot differentiate between a physical phone device and the phone number assigned to it.

When I reported my phone lost, I ordered a replacement phone with the understanding that I could use the same phone number I've had for years. Now this must happen tens of thousands of times a day. It is only natural that when one loses a phone, one wants to replace it with a phone with the same number. Tracfone is unable to do this simple thing, evidently.

I now am waiting for 24 hours while they unmark my old physical phone as "stolen" so they can liberate the phone number and transfer it to my new phone. I risk someone stealing all my data, but I thought it was worth it to keep my old phone number. (The likelihood the phone was actually stolen is small.) I questioned the technician, who was a supervisor, as to why the phone number must be forever associated with a physical unit which was stolen (or lost or even destroyed?) Why can't they de-activate the physical unit and transfer the old number to the replacement phone? The phone is a physical entity with its own unique serial number, the phone number is simply a number.

She just kept repeating the same polite and uninformative ***, which basically amounted to "we can't do this." Since when I reported the phone lost, I had asked if I could keep my old number and they had assured me I could, there seems to be a fatal flaw in the system. This seems to simple!

Reason of review: Order processing issue.

Monetary Loss: $200.

Preferred solution: Let the company propose a solution.

TracFone Cons: Cannot transfer phone number to replacement phone.

Location: 9700 NW 112th Ave, Medley, FL 33178, USA
