TRACFONE is a rip off.

My dad has used tracfone for 2 years. I bought my mom one for Christmas. For the past 10 days, I have been on the phone with them 10 times. Each call at least 30 minutes long. One thing you need to know is they select a carrier. They gave us an Iowa area code, which is long distance! I have spent over a week just trying to get a local area code, they keep telling me, basically, that number doesn't exist..even though my dad's phone is a local area code. (One of the biggest in Illinois!) I am thinking they went with AT&T since it's not a covered area code here. Either way, their tech support sucks. Good luck getting one you can understand! Tomorrow I will be calling the Miami number listed in the other posts here. They've sent me new SIM cards, always telling me "Give it one hour and you'll have your new number" but never change the area code! I swear, they hire the most *** people on the planet. DO NOT BUY A TRACFONE! You've been warned.

Tracfone is obviously scamming its customers with text messaging. I had an old Tracfone that did not charge me to read text messages. I rarely got text messages back then. Occasionally a friend would send me one, but we aren't really into text that much.

Then I got a new Tracfone, keeping my same phone number. Apparently all new Tracfones charge to read an incoming text message. Guess what? Now I get tons of junk advertising text messages! It took me 2 or 3 times to realize I'm being scammed by Tracfone. They, their affiliate, or their 3rd-party bed buddy are intentionally sending me junk text messages so Tracfone can make money when I read them. Now I'm very careful to see who the message is from before reading it. But they obfuscate it with a weird code like xxx-xx, with numbers in the x spots.

But maybe I'm imagining things. Paranoid, right?

Well, my wife just replaced her old Tracfone with a new one (different model than me), keeping the same phone number. Again, all new Tracfones charge to read an incoming text. Guess what? Now SHE is getting tons of junk text messages that she never got before.

Tracfone, you are ***. Quit this before you get fined and/or arrested. :(

Same problem as you. Register number with donotcall.gov and this should stop or it is illegal activity I believe.

What kind of text messages? Incoming text messages do not use minutes, at least not on my Motorola. Tracfone sometimes sends ads but they don't use minutes either.

i have found a way to cut down on this... don't open the new text right away, just go to your inbox and the number will show up with the first word of the text, then if you don't recognize it...

don't have to open it, just delete it... this should help

Tracphone-so far so good

I recently purchased a tracphone at Wal-Mart. It was a cheap phone with double minutes for life of the phone. It was easily activated within a few minutes and minutes were automatically doubled like they said. Haven't tried adding additional minutes though. The phone was only about thirty bucks and so far we have had good tone and quality service with the phone. We feel that the text messages are reasonable. I have read reviews in the past with consumers who had a problem with the double minute issues. Maybe I just got lucky on this purchase but with the double minutes it is a pretty decent phone.

We've had a trac phone LG 3280 for a few years. This year we took it (from Iowa) on vacation and half way to Tx.

it stopped working. We bought another down there and used it. On the way back to Iowa the new one stopped working "34 restriction"! Then the old one started working again.

What's the deal? We don't want one phone for Texas and another one for Iowa!!

:zzz

My father also has a Tracfone with double minutes for life. He has never had a problem. The minutes double as promised each and every time.

My Sister-In-Law commented this weekend that his phone was better quality than hers from ATT!

Tracfone. The word is synonymous with ***...and fraud...and theft. I bought a Tracfone for my wife from our local Wal Mart in July. Everything was fine, she burned through her first card fairly quickly, so I bought her a 900 minute, double minutes for life card. Fine. ...

Tracfone is lying....

Two years ago I purchased the LG 225 from the Tracfone site. I was replacing another phone that I had from them, and I liked the DMFL. I had to change the number due to some continued abusive calls I was getting last year, but otherwise I was happy with the service. On 9/25/08 I purchased a 120 minute card and used the 60 minute bonus code of 53322 on their site. Nothing happened. I figured I probably had to wait a few hours, so I shut the phone off and went to bed. I get up Saturday morning and guess what - NO MINUTES added!! I called Tracfone and talked to someone who really couldn't speak good English. I was told that there was no record of the DMFL plan. I came back and told them I wouldn't have purchased the phone in the first place if there wasn't DMFL and this was the first time I had a problem. After himming and hawing for about 30 minutes, they said they would give me to technical support. This was AFTER they got the card and bonus minutes into my LG 225, but still didn't have it doubled. Translation - "You're outta luck sucker" and I was disconnected. I got on their website and created a ticket, explaining everything I had told them on the phone. I got an answer this morning saying that there was a code pending and to go to their website and follow the insturctions in the letter. Guess what, no luck. I had to create ANOTHER ticket. I did copy and paste the original letter. I am still waiting for them to answer. If this does not get resolved to my satisifation, I will be on the phone to Tracfon's Excutive Resolutions Manager at 1-80*-876-**** on Monday morning.

It clearly states on the Tracfone site that you need to leave your phone on for minutes to be added. So you should not have turned it off Friday night when you went to bed.

Tracphone deceitful ripp offs

ok, so i bought a tracfone and always had trouble adding minutes to my phone becasue of their technical difficulties, so buying a new phone would solve that problem. well, it didn't and they said my double for life time minutes was only good for the life of the phone, so by their techical difficulties making it hard to add minutes, they shoul dtransfer my double minutes to my new phone becasue it was thier fault, right? Well, they don't take blame for anything the arrogant bastards and they don't serve the customer very well at all! tHIER technical difficulties are on going and they seem to take advantage of that by making it difficult for the customer to add mintues, so avoid their service at all costs!

Tracfone is bad news!

I called today to get a new phone as my old phone (only 6 months old) had problems holding a charge. I got a phone and called two times to get my old number changed to my new phone and my minutes transferred. It didn't work, and I went to get yet another Tracfone. So I called back and asked for a manager. I got a lady who was rude and just got mad and transferred the call to tech support. Great, the girl at tech support tried to help, but she lost vital info: she deleted all my previous minutes and time (the time the phone stays active) by accident and then acted as if it wasn't a matter that I had only two months, when before I'd had 15 months of active service! She did manage to transfer my minutes but told me her manager said to delete the number of months I had available! So from 2010 I'm back to 2008, at the end of the summer. I was soooo angry! I think she did that deliberately because she knew she would never get in trouble for it. Screw Tracfone, if it wasn't a present from my dad and a number I wish to keep I'd take it back and get my money back. As it is, I may call the tech dept of the store that I purchased it from and have them cancel it.

Tracfone uses deceptive sales practices

I have had a tracfone for several years with few problems. This past year I bought a new phone that came with prepaid service and minutes for a full year. I asked the rep specifically if this phone would work anywhere in the USA, as I planned to use it while traveling. I was assured that "yes maam, it will work wherever you go in the USA." It did not work anywhere beyond 24 miles from my home in one direction. It did not work from my home. When I called the reps approx. 5 times over a weeks time period, I was repeatedly read to from a flow-chart by reps and supervisors and finally told that I would need to take my land line with me and call them from the area that I was having problems getting service from. They could not send me a new phone unless I did. Needless to say, they never sent me a new phone.Yes, you read this correctly. It was pure lunacy! I documented every call and submitted a claim to my credit card company to reverse charges on my purchase. To this date my credit card company has sided with me. I will never buy another tracfone. Deal with a company that has reps from this country that you can talk to face to face.

Buyers beware.... Worst Service Ever!!!!!

Buyers beware.... Worst Service Ever!!!!! I am on my third TracFone... I had purchased this phone via their website. The first phone that I had received ... did not work. So after being on the phone with them 1 1/2 hours... the decided that they would replace me with a another one... which was refurbished! Guess what? This one did not work either! Then they decided ...after a little over 2 hours on the phone with them... the decided to mail me a third... And surprise... this one does not work either! After being on the phone with them for a little over a 1/2 hour with them today, they told me that I would not get my money back and I will not get another exchange. So here I am out over $50, over 3 hours of my time and I do not have a phone... As for my 2 cents... stay away from this train wreck!

Tracphone may have cost me my business!

Im a service provider who relies on 24/7 phone service. After being a Tracphone customer for 3+ years I decided to upgrade my old Trackphone to a new Tracphone. I was told by Tracphone to move my phone # to and activate the newer phone could take up to 24 hrs of downtime. This was acceptiable on Sunday. So after turning off service to my older model on Sunday morning they tell me my number is to old and they need to send me a new sim card to connect the new phone. I will get it in 3 to 5 days! They cant turn on the old phone, cant activate the new one. Im SCREWED!

Cannot get my name with my Tracfone.

It makes no sense to me that I cannot get my name, Fred Atchley, with my Tracfone number. I bought the Tracfone new. At first the name with my Tracfone number was Ago Roberto. After my wife and I talked to at least 6 different customer service people in 3 different countries, they finally changed the name to "wireless caller." If there was a name originally and there was, and if that name could be changed to wireless caller, which it was, why could it not be changed to my name, Fred Atchley? Net 10/Trac-phone lied to me for 6 weeks!

Net 10 wireless (Trac-Phone) lied to me for 6 weeks. I asked for a detailed call listing which they said they can provide and faxed the information they requested. After a few weeks I didnt receive anything so I called again. They gave me a second set of instructions which I followed. Nothing came. I called again, the agent told me the information was being sent to me DHL and was on its way. Nothing came. I called again and they said everything I was told was wrong. I was lied to every time I called. I paid good money to have the information they requested notarized and faxed to them. They gave me false information, false instructions, empty promises and even hung up on me mid sentence 3 times!!! All their agencies are in other countries and they don't care about their consumers, just the money they get from them. DONT buy anything Net 10 or trac-phone.

I've been through problems with them too. They shut me off after getting my payment.

Then told me that the SIM card was bad after hours of programing codes. My new phone has had 3 new SIM card and still dosnt work.

They have to send me another SIM card. I contacted the BBB and am keeping them up to date with my nearly month long problem.

Tracfone phone upgrade nightmare

Tracfone doesn't tell you that if you "upgrade"your phone that you will be without service for a week or more.....the vague answers you get from customer service are infuriating, and in this day and age of computers why does it take this long for carriers to switch your information, and on top of that I called daily sometimes 2x a day and they just told me that the request to the carrier just had to be resubmitted!!! hello!!!! change the website and recorded message that says keeping your number and units is "quick and easy".....Not! And why is the carrier information is so secret........

I would never contact your company because by the looks of your grammar I would not be able to understand you, of course that's probably part of your scam because then you can say that the customer didn't understand what you were saying and therefore it's not your fault. Its not your accent or nationality, BUT your lack of speaking FLUENT English.

Whatever you're selling, please learn to spell and say the words well. BTW, you might want to make a suggestion to your boss and put "If you'd like to speak to a literate person, please press 1.

Deactivated my phone in my area and gave me a cheap replacment

I called to reactivate my phone and was told it is no longer usable in my area. They would send me a new phone and what comes in the mail the cheapest model they can send you and it is a reconditioned used model. When I called to complain they told me that my phone I paid 30-40 dollars for is now only worth 14 what a RIP OFF. I was told this is the phone I get and sorry about your luck basically. I will not use them again. I want everyone to know what a ripoff they are find a new company to use.

I had the same problem and the people at this email address helped me fix my issue. I know that the email is going to the company themselves but the people handling these emails are very good.

Give it a try.

The email address is TF.CorpResolutionTeam@tracfone.com. Oh yeah, send them your name, cell number or your phone serial number or you can chat with them live @ http://bit.ly/18WfOoC.
