TracFone - Tracfon-pinzoo security breach.
Friday I upgraded my tracfone from a Lg840 to a LG Ultimate 2. I ordered the tracfone directly from them. It arrived friday. I called the 800 number and transfered my existing account to the new phone with no problems. 2 hours later, my old phone stopped working and the new one was activated, my phone number transfered to the new phone with no problems.
Saturday (today) we had a security breach, one that is bothering both me and mom.
Here is the problem. Im a disabled Vet, on limited income. So mom buys minutes for my phone thru pinzoo. She uses a credit card on the pinzoo website. She has never called them.
Today she got a call from trackFone telling her that HER new phone was ready and needed to be upgraded and that I should go to the tracfone website and upgrade the phone. Mom has a Cell phone from her job, and its an AT&T phone, not a tracfone. Why would trackfone call her? Her name and/or number is not even listed on my tracfone account.
I went to the website and my old phone was shown as inactive. I added my new one with no problems. I also checked all my personal data on that site. Moms number does not appear anywhere nor does her name.
Mom returned the call she got and asked how they got her number. They said I gave it to them. No i did not. I would not give anyone my moms work number - her home number yes, but they called on her business (work) cell phone, not her house phone.
Then they said it was a wrong number dialed.. What a coincidence.. She didn't buy that excuse either.
It looks like TracFone and Pinzoo are collecting peoples data and sharing it. This is a clear security violation. How they got moms number, must have been thru her credit card info, its the only thing that makes sense.
Reason of review: Security breach involving ID and Credit card info..
Preferred solution: Let the company propose a solution.
